Getaway Society is a growing premium vacation rental home company with properties in Martha’s Vineyard, Hilton Head, the Poconos, Gatlinburg and Orlando. Founded by Calvin Butts Jr. and Carrington Carter in 2014, the company has grown from group travel planning to a $5 million real estate portfolio. In response to changing travel needs in the wake of COVID-19, with Americans looking to stay closer to home, escape with friends and family members, and protect themselves with no-contact check in service, the home rental market has continued to grow.

In response, Getaway Society has successfully engaged Black leisure travelers, who spend more than $100B in domestic travel in the U.S. annually. From hosting family gatherings to bachelorette parties and fraternity/sorority events, the luxury vacation rental industry is poised for exponential growth in 2021. A commitment to health and safety, cleanliness and privacy helps set the growing industry apart in the tourism field.

Business partners Calvin Butts Jr. and Carrington Carter, who met through Hampton University’s alumni network, also co-own McKinley Carter Enterprises, a real estate investment and property management company and East Chop Capital, a private equity firm that helps people create and grow businesses. Advising black entrepreneurs on how to build a real estate portfolio is a passion for both Getaway Society founders.

Getaway Society began with a focus on memory-making luxury vacation spots in in Martha’s Vineyard, the Poconos and Hilton Head and added new properties in Gatlinburg, Tennessee and Orlando, Florida this year. The company is looking to expand to Destin, Florida and the West Coast of the U.S., as well as international destinations in Central American and Africa.
